Role debut as Philippe II in ‘Don Carlos’ in Paris
This spring, Christian Van Horn makes a thrilling role debut as Philippe II in Verdi’s epic Don Carlos. It’s a much-anticipated return to the Opéra National de Paris for the bass-baritone, who has previously bowed as Massenet’s Don Quichotte, the Four Villains in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffman, Méphistophélès in Gounod’s Faust, the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Narbal in Berlioz’s Les Troyens, among others.
Under the baton of Simone Young, Van Horn joins an exciting cast of accomplished Verdians in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s mid-century-inspired production. Charles Castronovo sings the title role, with Marina Rebecca as Elisabeth de Valois, Ekaterina Gubanova as La Princesse Eboli, Andrzej Filończyk as Rodrigue, and Alexander Tsymbalyuk as Le Grand Inquisiteur.
Don Carlos plays March 29-April 25, 2025. Tickets and information are available here.
