House debut at London’s Royal Ballet and Opera
On June 11, 16, 18, 21, 24, 26 and July 1 and 3, Christian Van Horn makes a much-anticipated house debut at London’s Royal Ballet and Opera, singing one of his signature roles, the dashing Escamillio in Bizet’s Carmen. It’s a role Van Horn has sung at some of the world’s most prestigious houses, most recently for San Francisco Opera, where he “imbued the role with a booming voice and commanding presence” (Parterre), as well as Bayerische Staatsoper, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Canadian Opera Company, and more.
Damiano Michieletto’s “simmering, naturalistic” (Guardian) production returns to the Royal Balle and Opera, led by conductors Mark Elder, Christopher Willis, and Ariane Matiakh. Singing alongside Van Horn are Aigul Akhmetshina and Anna Goryachova in the title role, with Freddie De Tommaso and Charles Castronovo as Don José, Selene Zanetti and Valentina Puskás as Micaëla, and Jamie Woollard as Zuniga.
