‘Don Carlo’ at The Dallas Opera
Christian Van Horn returns to The Dallas Opera this February, giving his first American performances as Philip II in Verdi’s towering grand opera, Don Carlo. Van Horn’s debut in this iconic role happened just last season at Opéra Bastille, where his performance earned excellent reviews; “Christian Van Horn plays a Philip II who is both authoritarian and human, delivering a poignant “Ella giammai m’amò” tinged with fragility” (Entrevue).
Don Carlo marks an exciting return to Dallas for Van Horn, who has previously appeared in productions of Puccini’s Turandot and Bellini’s Norma. He will join a fantastic cast in Louis Désiré’s production, under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume. Stephen Costello sings the title role, with Nicole Car as Elizabeth de Valois, Etienne Dupuis as Rodrigo, Clémentine Margaine as Princess Eboli, and Morris Robinson as The Grand Inquisitor.
Don Carlo will be performed February 27 and March 1, 4, and 7.
