‘Attila’ in concert at Teatro Real
On May 14 and 17, Christian Van Horn returns to Madrid’s Teatro Real, adding another of opera’s greatest villains to his repertoire: the fearsome title role in Verdi’s Attila. This rarely-performed masterwork centers on the legendary Hun leader’s invasion of Italy, exploring themes of resistance, spirituality, and destiny. Attila is notable not only for its stirring choruses and heroic arias, but also for the complex and nuanced characterization of the title character.
Singing under the baton of Nicola Luisotti, Van Horn is joined by an all-star cast, including Sondra Radvanovsky as the fierce and heroic Odabella, with Michael Fabiano as Foresto, and Artur Rucinski as Ezio. Presented in concert, the May 17 performance will also be available to stream on MyOpera by Teatro Real.
